During
the classes, our physical therapists will explain and demonstrate
optional spinal alignment and body mechanics for lifting,
squatting, sitting and other functional motions. The basic
principle behind the Back Education and Training classes is
to provide information to an individual suffering from back/neck
pain on how to perform activities from the very simple, such
as getting out of a chair or bed, to the very complex, such
as lifting without strain to the back or neck. Emphasis is
on maintaining an efficient, pain-free posture.
Why
is it important to learn correct posture and alignment?
Improperly
performed repetitive activities such as lifting, bending,
twisting and sitting posture can cause accelerated degeneration
of the tissues of the lumbar spine, and in many cases be the
immediate cause of injury and pain.
