Joel Smith, Physical Therapist, Clinical Manager
Joel obtained his bachelor of science from the School of Kinesicology at the University of Michigan in1995.  He graduated from Temple University in 2000 with a Masters of Physical Therapy degree.  He chose the field of physical therapy because of the unique and individualized hands on care it allow you to provide to patients.  When not working as a therapist, Joel enjoys his time with his wife, Michelle, and daughter, Madelyn, and exploring the waters and woods of beautiful northern Michigan.
 



Matt Opolka, Physical Therapist

Matt is originally from Norway, Michigan in the beautiful Upper Peninsula.  He received a Bachelor's degree in Health Fitness and minor in Nutrition from Central Michigan University in 2008.  He continued  at CMU to receive his Doctorate in Physical Therapy degree in May 2011.  Matt's clinical experience included an in-patient rotation at Spectrum Health and an out-patient clinical rotation at  MSU clinical center. In his free time, Matt enjoys mountain biking, running, hunting, fishing and being outdoors.  Matt also loves spending time with all of his wonderful family and friends.


Amy Bartling, Licensed Athletic Trainer

Amy has a degree in Sports Medicine from Central Michigan University.  She is a certified personal trainer through the National Strength and Conditioning Association and is a certified massage therapist specializing in medical massage.  Amy lives in Charlevoix with her husband, Kris, and children, Kristopher and Lauren. 



Joelle Beaudoin, Licensed Athletic Trainer
Joelle is a 1999 CMU alumni from the Sports Medicine program.  She has worked in our Indian River & Petoskey clinics as a high school / clinical ATC since 2000.  She was the certified athletic trainer for Charlevoix High School from 2001- 2008.  In addition to sports rehabilitation, Joelle's primary interest is implementing injury prevention programs.  She is one of the founders of the Peak Performance Program, a summer fitness program for high school students.  When not working, her other love is hockey and spending time with her husband, Kevin, and son, Thatcher; biking, hiking, & skiing near their home in Elk Rapids.

Abbie Hart, Licensed Athletic Trainer
Abbie grew up on Beaver Island and then attended Central Michigan University where she received her Bachelors of Science with a focus of Sports Medicien/Athletic Trainer. She joined our staff in 2007 and is married with 2 sons.  Abbie enjoys living in the Charlevoix community and spending time with friends and family.




Erika Edwards, Licensed Athletic Trainer

Erika is from Laingsburg, Michigan, where she graduated from Laingsburg High School in 2007. After high school, Erika obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Athletic Training from Albion College in 2011.  Aside from athletic training, Erika is also a Licensed Emergency Medicinal Technician-Basic.  Erika is also the Athletic Trainer for the Charlevoix High School.  She will be on the sidelines of home athletic events and in the training room to perform injury screenings, taping and training. In her spare time, Erika loves working with ceramics, playing cards, photography, and being around her family and friends.

  Teresa Potter, Licensed Athletic Trainer, Patient Representative
Teresa was born and raised in Charlevoix and graduated from Saginaw Valley State University in 2011 with a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training.  She was a patient at Sports Medicine Center in high school and continued to enrich her education by coming back many times throughout college to learn more.  When she is not working, she is out enjoying the outdoors by running, biking and backpacking.  Teresa also enjoys spending time with her family and working out.  
 
   
 
Kris Way, Front Office Manager
Kris has lived in Charlevoix since 1984. Her husband, Barney, a Charlevoix native, is co-owner of Dry Harbour Marine of Charlevoix.  Together they have five beautiful and active daughters Katie, Kari, Kim, Kandis, and Kelsey and a granddaughter, Sophie.  Kris enjoys boating, running, baking, and spending time with her family. She has run 9 marathons and looks forward to #10, but is enjoying running after Sophie for now.   Kris joined the Petoskey Staff in September 2006 as a P.T. Aide.  In July 07, she transferred to Charlevoix and now is front office Manager.  Loves being a part of this great team!
